"I don't really think that effects my opinion of democracy. Now whe only party ever wins I think there is more to be worried about. Though not so much from electoral unfairness but from the corrupting influence of a lack of competition. It's really hard to see how this could spark a civil war when the Democrats just moderating on social issues would give them the win. Is the idea here that death is better than moderation"

"Well just as a matter of logic that's not correct. For example it could be that big institutions burned increasing amounts of social capital inducing such shifts. That said this isn't Helen's argument. The shift is general. It's just that the consequences are more pronounced in certain institutions than others"
