All of my symbols & parts are in git. The metadata is in my own company datastore (which is the correct way) KiCad has a new library feature call "http libs". Makes company library/database integration sane. It does the modern thing and allows meta data to come from an HTTP API. One that your company can completely control. I did a talk at KiCon back in May. My company is now funding KiCad for a new feature in V10 related to libraries that will make it even better. In two hours I made a tool that generates manufacturing docs that Altium still can't do. And if you could get drafts to do it it would be a day of crashes and not useable for any other projects.
