"I finally got around to taking a look at Sonocom ($7902.T). Cheapest stock I have ever seen that is not an obvious fraud. Sonocom is a net-net trading at 2/3 of NCAV and just one-third of book. It has TWICE its market cap in net cash and securities holdings. Its core business must be a disaster right"

"Heres another dirt cheap Japanese stock that I passed on. Zett Corp ($8135.T). Maker of sports equipment (baseballs gloves etc) with a $56m market cap. Trades below 0.6x book and 3x earnings with XXX% of its market cap in cash and securities. Not a great business but has been consistently profitable and cash flow positive for past decade"

"This is not a great business to be clear. Margins are low and have been under pressure. But the company has generated positive FCF every year since 2012. Lots of upside to book value should they adopt more aggressive shareholder return policies to raise ROE. Hikari Tsushin owns almost 5%. Its a tiny position in my Japan deep value basket"

Share price under pressure for five years despite resilient revenues and net profits. Trades under 0.4x book and just over 2x FCF. "Sankyo ($6417.T) bought back another X% of its shares in May and has now shrunk its share count by XX% since 2019. When the current buyback authorization expires next March itll have bought back 55%. ROE has now climbed above 20%. Shares are up over 4x from 2020 lows. Still trades 4x EV/EBIT"
