"Effective July 3rd 2025 the Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) will automatically detain youth offenders charged with a crime while they are on an ankle monitoring system. This approach is a weak attempt to tackle the fundamental issues within the department. DJS requires more robust reforms to ensure public safety reduce youth recidivism and genuinely support youth offenders in order to prevent them from becoming adult career criminals. The notion of waiting for a youth offender to commit multiple offenses while under an ankle monitor before holding them accountable is utterly ridiculous."
