"a blockchain isn't purely a ledger. it's also a distribution engine that is composed of the community supporting it developers building on it and researchers helping improve it. when an alt EVM L1 launches it helps grow the pie by creating new open sourced research advancements and by increasing the number of users and developers using the EVM. the research advancements can (and will) be applied to ETH L1 if they're relevant + new users will try out ETH L1 as there are critical apps there + new developers will considering deploying on ETH L1 if there are distribution advantages"

"blockchains are not purely backend infra - they are a combination of backend infra + distribution engines. and that distribution engine is the primary reason that most founders pick one blockchain over another. i agree that if stripe onboarded users directly to ethereum L1 that would be the best case. but its not actually that different for them to onboard users to an L2 vs an EVM L1 - most of the value that L2s provide ETH comes from eth alignment not from financial alignment"
