A limestone mining project by African Minerals and Steel Limited has been approved in Karonga. The company received a 15-year licence and plans to create at least XXX jobs. A processing plant will also be set up in Mzuzu. 

The project is awaiting final environmental clearance from Mepa. It is expected to reduce Malawi’s reliance on imported lime and support local construction and agriculture.
