With one deviation - area to east of Shimshal Pass, a valley formed by Braldu river which flows into Shaksgam, was given to Pakistan as it was a traditional grazing ground for Shimshal region. Shaksgam Valley was practically a no-man's land sparsely populated mainly with Kyrgyz nomads. Raiders from Hunza, also known Kanjutis, would raid in to Shaksgam Valley to capture these nomads and sell them into slavery. Sometimes they went really east and looted caravans from Leh to Kashghar via Karakoram pass. The Chinese have no claim on Hunza. The British had stopped the custom of Hunza paying tributes to the imperial court in Beijing. Pakistan gave up Hunza's grazing right in Tagdumash Pamir beyond Kunjerab Pass as part of the settlement.
