A jury has found that Joanna Rowland-Stuart, 71, a trans woman, killed her husband, Andrew Rowland-Stuart, 69, by "stabbing and slicing him" more than XX times with a samurai sword she bought in the 1980s. The incident occurred in their 15th-floor flat in Lavender Street, Brighton, UK, on May XX last year. When police & paramedics arrived, Andrew's injuries were deemed "simply not survivable." Joanna told police she "had no choice" but to kill him after he allegedly attacked her with the sword. However, prosecutor Charlotte Newell stated this claim could be "safely rejected" due to the "sheer number and the nature of the wounds," which could not be a reasonable use of force. Jurors found Joanna committed the act in a "trial of the act" which focuses on whether the act was physically committed, not intent. Joanna had been deemed "unfit to plead" and participate in her trial. Judge Christine Laing ruled she would be an unreliable witness and unfit for cross-examination. Joanna was given an indefinite Hospital Order Under Section XX of the Mental Health Act 1983.
