Lee Owens, 46, of no fixed address, has been charged with two counts of murder & arson with intent to endanger life following the deaths of Eric Greener, 77, & Sheila Jackson, XX. The "deeply loved" elderly couple were killed in their family home in South John Street, St Helens, UK, on Tuesday, July 15, in what police describe as an "absolutely sickening" suspected arson attack. Owens has been remanded into custody to appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court today, July XX. Police had previously confirmed an accelerant was used to maliciously start the blaze around 12:40 AM. A 31-year-old man from St Helens was arrested on Sunday, July 20, on suspicion of murder, but was conditionally bailed after questioning. Eric & Sheila, who had been together for XX years, were described by their family as "our Queen and King" and "the life and soul of the party, always loving a song on the karaoke." Their family stated, "They will forever be devastatingly missed but eternally loved by their family, friends and the community." Detective Chief Inspector Steve McGrath described the attack as "truly shocking."
