Guy has spent XX days in trial over the last number of years and has made many trips at great expense from his home in Nova Scotia. The judge commented that Guy appears by all metrics to be a good guy as he has gotten to know him in sorts over the course of these years. He notes aloud these are background sentencing considerations [referring to character]. Guy happily blurts out that the judge is welcome to visit his home if he's ever in Nova Scotia. [Guy is an extraordinarily good and innocent person by nature.] The judge respectfully dismisses this invitation. The judge thanks defence counsel Brian Doody for the [a lot] of paperwork he passed forward in his sentencing submissions over the last hours. The judge humorously comments that it could be used to wrap a fish. I missed the crown's submissions this morning but caught the defence's arguments, which made some solid points.
