🟥/🟧/🟦/⬛️ - Pre-FP1 Downforce Levels Analysis

Compared to Silverstone, teams are going down on downforce. Some more, some less, some choices are curious, and some are perplexing - in my view

🟥 Ferrari are taking X steps down on rear end downforce, which is why they have trimmed front wing flaps as well. Smaller rear wing and smaller beam wing as well, which is comparable to Baku 2024 setup (on photo). In Baku 2024 they ran a smaller beam wing compared to Spa 2024, so Spa 2025 is a step down on Spa 2024 for Ferrari.

🟧 McLaren is still perplexing to me, they have the most chassis drag due to some high cooling features apparently. At Silverstone, they used this rear wing and it was the smaller choice between the two they tested. They had a small double flap beam wing , while here it looks like they will use same spec - but single flap. In my view, even without the g-flap, this might be too draggy configuration for McLaren at Spa.

🟦 Red Bull are using a slightly smaller beam wing than Silverstone, taking a half-step down. This is not surprising, as aiming for high aero efficiency is rewarding at Spa. My guess for Tsunoda is to have a bigger beam wing available just in case, while I expect Verstappen would prefer to keep things as small as possible.

⬛️ Mercedes is having the same rear wing spec as last year and I didn't manage to find any photo with a clear view of beam wing. Depending on that, they have taken at least X step down vs Silverstone and if they use a smaller beam wing - it will be X steps down, just like Ferrari. Last year, Mercedes used double-flap beam wing, which was slowing them down on straights, but Hamilton had no issues with traction and managed to overtake Leclerc early and maintain the lead.
