@observer1us @yishan @gonglei89 There is a beautiful description by Ray Huang in his book China: A Macrohistory.  So you have dry air coming in from the Eurasian heartland that hits moist air coming in from the coast.  So in an idea situation these two air masses dump just the right amount of rain....
