X is usually a supporting striker or an attacking midfielder depending on formation

XX is usually a central midfielder or an attacking midfielder depending on formation.

Where a formation plays X as attacking midfielder, he is closer to the main striker (9) than XX. Although some people challenged this when I said it here last year or so, telling me a XX is closer to the striker than an 8, which was strange to me.
