Derek Owen Cuellar-Torres, 19, has been sentenced to life in a state correctional facility, with parole eligibility after XX years, for shooting two teens at a birthday party in Hillsboro, Oregon. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder with a firearm in the slaying of Jesus Copado-Oropeza, 17, & one count of attempted first-degree murder with a firearm for injuring a 16-year-old male. The shooting occurred on October 21, 2023, after the birthday girl's brother, who was hosting, believed Jesus & the other victim were "disrespectful." He contacted his friends, including Cuellar-Torres, all gang members, to "confront the two victims." Cuellar-Torres & another armed teenager "hid in the shadows" while the others lured the victims outside. They then "opened fire," fatally hitting Jesus & injuring the other teen. A total of XX shell casings were found. Investigators found text messages from Cuellar-Torres complaining he was "losing time" & wanted to "catch a body" before turning XX. He dismissed concerns about being charged as an adult, believing he could blame alcohol & drugs. After the murder, he allegedly bragged about killing Jesus, claiming he could now become a "cartel assassin." Police quickly identified & arrested Cuellar-Torres & the other alleged shooter, who both admitted involvement. All involved attended the same high school. 🙏Please share to spread awareness DISCLAIMER: The information shared is based on initial reports, may not be fully verified, and is presented as alleged.
