We’re not sending pallets of cash for some NGO leader to pocket like we do in most of the third world; we’re sending weapons. Those weapons are American made. Israel is a backdoor for US manufacturing subsidies. We pay US firms using U.S. factories to build weapons and send them overseas. Congressmen get to act like this is an act of virtue standing with an ally while scoring major political points back home. It’s a win-win for politicians and Israelis. In terms of percent of the federal budget it’s just not that much money. If all aid to Israel was cut, for every dollar you pay in federal taxes you would now pay $XXXXX it’s less than XXX% of the budget. It’s foreign aid which I don’t like, but it’s such a small insignificant portion of our budget that it doesn’t make the top XXX issues I care about. Israel just isn’t that big a deal no matter how much the crazy Jew haters and third world communists try to convince you otherwise.
