i refuse to support any general welfare programs when i see the majority of people buying the newest phones, carrying car loans out of pride, eating out 10+ times a week, saving nothing, and refusing to educate themselves and put into practice basic financial principles

about 10-15% of the population will never be able to hold down a job and support themselves. those people need some sort of support. the rest just need to be more frugal and stop trying to impress people they don't know
