James Andrew Woerner, 38, is in Bexar County Jail in San Antonio, Texas, facing charges including aggravated assault against a public servant & obstruction or retaliation. The case began on Friday, July 18, when Woerner allegedly broke into his 73-year-old mother's house & demanded she withdraw money from an ATM. When she refused, Woerner allegedly became enraged, threatened to burn his mother alive, forced her into a car, hit her, & warned he would crash the vehicle to kill them both. His mother ultimately jumped out of the moving car. Woerner's father contacted the San Antonio Police Department, warning that Woerner intended to throw "nitric acid" on responding officers. As officers arrived the next day, Saturday, July 19, to arrest Woerner on charges including injury to the elderly, he allegedly threw an "acidic substance" at an officer. The substance hit the officer & landed on the ground, where it began to "sizzle." Woerner is also accused of throwing a Molotov cocktail at law enforcement & yelling, "everyone is going to die." In the ensuing chaos, Woerner reportedly fled & barricaded himself in an apartment complex building before being apprehended.
