From this fall, PayPal World will be a new platform interconnecting different payment systems - PayPal & Venmo (U.S. & Europe), NPCI International Payments Limited (India), Tenpay Global (China) & $MELI's Mercado Pago (Latam). Those five platforms cumulate around X billion users. Each of their users will then have access to the other payment systems & partnered merchants without needing an account in them or using them. A Mercado Pago user will be able to shop anywhere PayPal is used with its Mercado wallet, for example - assuming merchants allow this functionality. This is a big deal for merchants, as they can largely expand the potential consumers without maintaining X different contracts with X different platforms. And a big deal for consumers who will now have much more possibilities to shop with their prefered wallet application. And $PYPL will very probably leverage its stablecoin or something like this for cross currencies as Alex talks about no fees on conversion nor delays. On the less positive, those are also rare usecase as most MercadoPago users will either way shop on $MELI or on other local e-com which will accept MercadoPago - and this is also true for other wallets. So the use case are less than we could expect as it is only during traveling or for specific usages. But a new specific usage which will grow rapidly is agentic shopping through LLMs, Perplexity for example, which you can now leverage to find the better deals & create carts without having to go over platforms & compare offers. In those case, it is entirely possible that the better deal for your product is not in the platform you usually use and will therefore create a cart for you on a platform which doesn't include you own wallet. But if this platform is included in PayPal world, then you'll be able to use your wallet through another payment system. And this becomes interesting. And $PYPL World will be the connective platform to facilitate those transfers and will certainly monetize with fees, although nothing about monetization was shared. PayPal confirmed that more partnerships will come. Overall a big new towards the proper direction as it will improve cross borders shoping & usage - left to see the volume driven by such improvements which should be significant in the U.S. between Venmo & PayPal but probably less with other systems. Still: Great new & another step towards the right direction.
