A 14-year-old boy has been charged with second-degree murder after allegedly stabbing Shahnaz Pestonja, 71, a grandmother, in a parking lot in Toronto, Canada. The unprovoked attack occurred while Shahnaz was loading groceries. Shahnaz was rushed to a hospital but died from her injuries. The suspect fled but was arrested after a "coordinated effort by multiple units." A video the accused allegedly shared on social media, which has not been confirmed, reportedly relayed "excuses" for his act & may have helped locate him. Former Toronto police homicide detective Mark Mendelson noted investigators took the "fairly rare" step of seeking a court order to release the teen's photo, suggesting prior police interaction. While his photo was public during the manhunt, his identity is now protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Shahnaz, a retired nurse, was a beloved wife, mother, & grandmother, & had recently celebrated her 47th wedding anniversary with her husband, Soli. Soli stated, "She was the love of my life.
