Ernesto Cruz, 54, has been charged with two counts of murder & criminal possession of a weapon after allegedly fatally stabbing his 41-year-old wife, Ana Pilatagsi-Moposita, and their 2-year-old daughter, Analiz Cruz, before turning the knife on himself. The horrific attack occurred on Saturday, July 19, on Forest Avenue near Menahan Street in Ridgewood, Queens, New York City. Ernesto allegedly used the Apple video app FaceTime to chat with his nephew as he fatally knifed Ana XX times and Analiz nine times, both in their neck & chest. The panicked nephew called XXX as the murders unfolded on his screen. Officers arrived to find Ernesto had stabbed himself in the chest. Both Ana and Analiz were taken to local hospitals, where they died from their injuries. Ernesto was also hospitalized and is in stable condition. A neighbor claimed Ernesto had been mentally abusive to Ana in the past & had threatened to kill her many times, stating, "He told her many times, 'One day, I’m going to kill you.' That means he was planning it." However, police stated the couple had no documented domestic violence history. Ernesto's only prior brush with the law was a transit summons in December 2022.
