The bout became official on February 9th of that year. The contract for the first Liston-Patterson fight had stated that Patterson, if he should lose, had the right to a rematch within a year. It also dictated that Patterson and Liston would each get XX% of the gate and XX% of the closed circuit revenue. This fight was originally set for April 4th of 1963, in Miami Beach, Florida, but was changed to April 10th when X to X favorite Liston injured his left knee. The match was then moved to June 27th in Las Vegas, Nevada, because of a recurrence of Liston's knee injury. The bout would be postponed, yet again, and rescheduled for July 22nd after Patterson had to have a benign tumor removed from between his fourth and fifth knuckles on his right hand. On August 21st of 1963, the WBA voted to suspend any member state approving a contract with a return bout clause. The regulation was inspired by the contract Liston was forced to sign to get his title shot against Patterson. Many in the sport described it as the worst ever seen in the boxing business. That vote by the WBA would rear it's ugly head on Liston's sucessor, Muhammad Ali not long afterwards.
