Privatize profits, socialize losses:

JP Morgan tired of using using his own money to bail out his friends and the banking system they destroyed, decided to put taxpayers on the hook indirectly.

Creation on Federal Income tax:

New income tax did provide the federal government a steady revenue stream, which helped service federal debt and fund bailouts of the rich.

License to manipulate asset prices:

By lowering interest rates, you lower payments, which increase demand which inflates asset prices.

This is why US politicians like Trump want control of the manipulation.
