The recent XX% surge in Zimbabwe’s spodumene exports, despite weak market prices, is a strong signal that this may already be happening. Spodumene from Zimbabwe goes to only one place, China. While fluctuations in export volumes are common, this scale of increase during a period of low prices stands out. It suggests that the growth in demand from processors is now outpacing production. With domestic output in China constrained by cost, importing low-priced spodumene allows inventory to build ahead of any recovery in lithium prices. This may be an early signal of a reversal in market sentiment and the return of upward price momentum.
