Devyn Michaels, 47, stunned a Las Vegas courtroom on Thursday, July 17, by declaring her innocence & claiming to have proof, despite previously pleading guilty to beheading her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Johnathan Willette, XX. Michaels had entered a plea deal in September, admitting to second-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon in exchange for parole eligibility after XX years. As Michaels was due to be sentenced, she addressed District Court Judge Tierra Jones directly, stating she could "prove my innocence" & accusing her lawyers of misdirection. Chief Deputy District Attorney John Giordani, "not comfortable" with Michaels' allegations, stated he was "willing to let her out of her plea deal." The judge warned Michaels of a potential first-degree murder conviction if she proceeded to trial, but Michaels insisted on withdrawing her plea. Michaels was arrested in August 2023 after Johnathan’s mother discovered his headless body in his bed. Police found the body "smoking" & smelling of chemicals. Michaels initially denied the killing but later admitted to striking Johnathan on the head with a wooden stick after he allegedly tried to force her into a sex act, claiming she only wanted to hospitalize him. She then suggested it was "very possible" she killed him & didn't remember. Michaels also alleged Johnathan was abusive towards her & accused him of having his oldest child take showers in front of him. Police claimed Michaels decapitated Johnathan at his Henderson home, then disposed of his head in a trash can at her Las Vegas home. Johnathan's head was never found. Police did locate his wallet, keys, social security card, & blood-covered phone at Michaels' home. Johnathan's father, JC Willette, called the hearing "disgraceful," & his stepmother, Valerie Willette, stated Michaels "has no remorse."
