🥤 Trump Push for Cane Sugar in Coke Could Shake U.S. Farm Economy & Raise Costs

President Trump claims Coca-Cola will switch to cane sugar in U.S. drinks, but analysts warn the move could be costly, complex, and harmful to U.S. farmers. 

While the shift aligns with health campaigners like RFK Jr., who argue cane sugar is healthier than high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), replacing HFCS would raise production costs by over $1B, disrupt supply chains, and slash corn demand, potentially costing farmers $5.1B in revenue. 

With limited U.S. cane sugar output and trade tariffs on Brazil, sugar shortages and price hikes may follow—leaving both companies and consumers to feel the squeeze.
