Exchange-traded funds that buy bank stocks were rising sharply Thursday, outperforming the broader U.S. stock market.

The SPDR S&P Bank ETF was up 1.1%, while the SPDR S&P Regional Banking ETF rallied 1.2%, according to FactSet data, at last check. The S&P 500, a widely followed index of U.S. large-cap stocks, was up a more modest XXX% in late morning trading Thursday.

Banks have been rolling out quarterly earnings reports this week, including JPMorgan Chase & Co, Citigroup Inc., Goldman Sachs Group, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America Corp. and Wells Fargo & Co. The S&P 500’s financial sector was up XXX% on Thursday afternoon $KBE $KRE
