Nailed it. Firing Powell does nothing for easing monetary policy. Plus, it is not their mandate to help the  government refinance its debt. And you are correct, the bond market determines the XX year bond rate and in turn mortgage rates, not the Fed. IMO home prices have a long way to come down before they will be affordable for most buyers.
