Jill Robinson, 43, has spoken out for the first time in a new Sky documentary after she was sentenced for helping cover up the murder of Katie Simpson, XX. Robinson took the bloodied clothes of her lover, Jonathan Creswell, to a launderette after he had beaten, raped, & murdered his young sister-in-law. For six months, it was assumed Katie, found with a rope around her neck at her home in Tynan, Northern Ireland, had died by suicide. However, unexplained bruises & cuts on her body, including on her inner thigh, & "swollen and bruised" hands, eroded that theory, but a proper investigation was stifled for half a year. Robinson, who was "infatuated" with Creswell, broke down, revealing how he manipulated her: "You don't understand how they get into your head and just sort of take over your life." She added, "Every day I ask myself, 'Why did I do that, why did I wash them?'" Katie, Creswell, & Robinson were all part of the same close-knit equestrian circles. Katie was the younger sister of Christina Simpson, who was married to Creswell. Groom Hayley Robb & teenage equestrian star Rose de Montmorency-Wright also helped Creswell cover up his crimes. On August 3, 2020, Creswell called police, claiming he found Katie hanging & tried to save her. It later emerged Katie was brutally murdered by Creswell in a fit of jealousy. Creswell was also engaged in multiple sexual relationships, including with Katie. Despite holes in Creswell's story, it took months for police to investigate. In March 2021, Creswell was arrested & charged with Katie's rape & murder after internal swabs from the post-mortem showed his semen. Robinson received a 16-month suspended sentence for perverting the course of justice. Rose de Montmorency-Wright admitted Creswell told her he'd beaten Katie, but initially withheld information, later pleading guilty & receiving an eight-month suspended sentence. Hayley Robb cleaned blood traces & admitted taking Creswell's clothes to a launderette, receiving a two-year suspended sentence. Creswell never faced justice; his body was found at his home on April 24, 2024, one day after the prosecution outlined their case at his trial.
