Miklovan Bazegurore, a Kosovan national convicted people smuggler, has claimed he shouldn't be deported to Belgium, where he faces a five-year jail sentence, because it "would be too disruptive for his daughter." Bazegurore is wanted by authorities in Ghent for his central role in an international human trafficking ring that smuggled adults & children into Britain in the backs of lorries.

His lawyers appealed his extradition, citing his 10-year-old daughter's right to a family life under the European Court of Human Rights Act, arguing she has special education needs & would suffer if her father served time in a foreign jail. However, a judge at the Court of Appeal ruled that the severity of the offenses "trumped the father-of-two's rights."

Bazegurore's gang "exploited vulnerable people, including children," for financial gain. The National Crime Agency intercepted one lorry with nine adults & two children in Milton Keynes in June 2016. In August 2016, another lorry was stopped in Belgium, containing nine Albanian adults & four children. Bazegurore was sentenced to five years in jail in Ghent in March 2018 for facilitating illegal immigration. In September 2018, he was also jailed for nine years in Aylesbury Crown Court after pleading guilty to conspiracy to facilitate illegal immigration in connection with the Milton Keynes incident. Since his release from British prison in 2023, Bazegurore has been fighting extradition. Mr. Justice Calver stated the high threshold for an "exceptional" case under Article X of the European Court of Human Rights had not been met.
