It’s a great example to show the “crime is caused by socioeconomics” crowd. Thousands of people that thought they could get money by check kiting. They didn’t need the money, they just wanted it. They didn’t even view it as wrong, they didn’t view it as dishonest. They thought it was fun and consequence free. It’s because they are both immoral and not very smart. Which is the true cause of most crimes and dysfunction in the lower class.
