Welterweight Ross Virgo (pictured) fights undefeated (23-0) Chuck Davey to a 10-round draw on July 16, 1951 at Municipal Auditorium in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Virgo, whose only defeat had been a decision to Lester Felton (trained by Eddie Futch he was a fine fighter), goes to 23-1-0 with the win.

Virgo would lose a decision to the highly regarded Bernard Docusen in his next bout, a fight that many felt could have gone either way, and would retire just over a year later with a record of 24-2-2 (6 KO wins) which included wins over Davey, Chester Rico, Tony Pellone, Fitzie Pruden, and future Welterweight and Middleweight Champion Carmen Basilio.

Virgo, out of Rochester, New York, had won XX of his XX amateur boxing matches and was the 1948 champion of the U.S. Army and Air Force before turning pro. He rose to become the #5 welterweight contender in the world before abruptly ending his career in 1953 to raise his family.

Ross Virgo died in June of 2011, at the age of 81, with the DelRay Beach (Florida) newspapers making no mention of his four-year (1948-52) pro boxing career in his obituary.
