Samantha Watts, 42, has been sentenced to XX years in prison, and her son, Payton Watts, 18, to XX years, after both pleaded guilty to murder in the 2023 death of Corey Adam Soles, XX. The sentences were part of a plea deal in South Carolina. Soles was "beaten and suffered blunt force trauma to his head while he lay in a wheelchair" between January X & 9, 2023, and had a broken leg from an earlier assault by Payton Watts. Prosecutors described Samantha Watts as running a "drug distributing business" & controlling her family, "specifically using Payton as her muscle, who was XX at the time of the murder." They also alleged Samantha gave Payton drugs from age XX to "groom" him to work for her. At least eight people were arrested in the "mob" attack on Soles, whom Samantha Watts allegedly suspected of stealing from her drug operation. Other children of Samantha Watts also pleaded guilty to involvement: Amber Watts, 23, to accessory after the fact to murder (six years suspended, five years probation), & Jonathan Watts, 21, to first-degree assault & battery (time served). Soles was reported missing on January 10, 2023, & his body was found six days later in the Galivants Ferry area of Horry County. South Carolina Twelfth Judicial Circuit Judge Michael Nettles remarked on Soles' suffering, including having a broken bone & lying for XX hours.
