In water fleas (Daphnia), the ketone body beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) but not NMN mimics calorie restriction and reduces early life mortality. Lifespan extension by BHB was reported in worms a decade ago, dependent on the NAD-dependent sirtuin, Sir-2.1
