Accounting tricks keep these banks alive

If they are doing so well - why do they need so much short term borrowing and repo liabilities? 

•  UST going down? No problem, they can mark to maturity.
•  Delinquency going up? No problem, mark to model (don’t need to foreclose).
•  99b securities sold not yet purchased liabilities? No problem, they can mark-to-market with hedging.

Unrealized gains are always shown but unrealized loss are always hidden 💁🏻‍♂️🙄
