Yep the ratio of potassium to protein is a good quick indicator of the acid load.

Most of the acid load directly comes from cysteine and methionine (the latter of which can convert to cysteine in the liver).

Once cysteine is oxidized in the liver it leads to the release of hydronium ions.

The hydronium ions (H3O+) acutely acidify the body if they’re not offset by dietary intake of bicarbonate or citrate.

So, it does intuitively make sense, to ingest some plant foods (think avocados, potatoes for example) to offset the acid load.

Additionally, the fiber from plant foods has been shown to reduce DNA adducts in the stool of humans eating red meat in several studies.

Thus, I always try and eat meat with avocados or potatoes for that reason as well.
