Bellevue study. This was a year long study with 2-3 months being in a metabolic ward at Bellevue hospital in NYC. The two Arctic explorers Anderson and Stefansson went on the carnivore diet for just over X year. Calcium balances were performed out to XX months. The entire study both individuals were in negative calcium balance. For the first year based on calcium balances Anderson lost around XXXXXXX mg of calcium (~ XXXXXX for the X months of calcium balances performed). That’s about 8-10% of total calcium stores lost in X year on carnivore. The body can only lose around XXXXX mg of calcium at the most from other parts of the body besides bone. Thus, XX% of those losses had to have come from bone. The calcium losses were still around XXX mg per day by the end of year one. If a pure meat carnivore diet can’t even keep someone in positive balance for an essential mineral I don’t think it’s optimal. Adding dairy would help but would still require around XXX mg of calcium to keep someone in positive balance on a high animal protein intake. It’s highly unlikely that a typical grocery store muscle meat carnivore diet provides an optimal amount of vitamin C. One could offset the acidosis and poor calcium status on carnivore with bicarbonate mineral waters or supplements but vitamin C is still suboptimal in my opinion. I also don’t believe carnivore is optimal for most people surrounding athletic performance, energy levels, thyroid hormone function, etc. XXX engagements **Related Topics** [nyc](/topic/nyc) [carnivore](/topic/carnivore) [Post Link](https://x.com/drjamesdinic/status/1945185545287819653)
