When you see Smartworks losses, look closer: Indian accounting standards require booking a lease liability upfront, shifting expenses earlier. Imagine paying ₹1000 rent over X years. Old rules showed ₹200 yearly, but Ind AS XXX shows higher numbers first (more than ₹200 in the first years, but less than ₹200 in the later years). So at the end of lease tenure, the profit will be shown! Hence, higher EBITDA but losses on paper!
