A dividend payment does not create any wealth — it just transfers money from one hand to another.

Imagine the stock you own is a wallet with money inside, when a company pays a dividend it’s like taking cash out of the wallet.

The amount of cash in your hand, but the value of your wallet (stock) goes down. 

You haven’t created new money — you just moved money around.
