Retired Brazilian volleyball player Everton Pereira Fagundes da Conceição, 46, known as ‘Everton Boi,’ was allegedly kidnapped & murdered by his girlfriend's former husband, Iderlei Pacheco, on Thursday night, July 10, in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, Brazil. Everton Boi was driving his pickup truck when Pacheco allegedly struck him in the head, leading to him losing control of his vehicle & crashing into another car near a gas station at 11:16 PM local time. Surveillance footage shows Pacheco abandoning the pickup truck & fleeing in another vehicle moments after the crash. Paramedics confirmed Everton Boi’s death at the scene. His girlfriend had reported him kidnapped several hours earlier. The Mato Grosso Civil Police are leading the investigation. While a specific motive has not been outlined, it's believed Pacheco may have been driven by jealousy over his ex-wife's new relationship. Everton Boi was a celebrated athlete, having starred on Brazil’s under-19 national team that won the 1995 FIVB World Championship & the South American Championship in 1996.
