Since the 1930s, when Social Security taxes were implemented, taking tax receipts up above XX% of GDP has resulted in a recession EVERY TIME it has happened. Sometimes just getting close to XX% is enough to push the US economy into recession. We have got to get spending down to below tax receipts, and that will be unpleasant.
