Free swimming pool in Central Park seems like a bit of a cluster so far.

My favorite public pools (Barton Springs in Austin, the Ponds at the Heath) are ~$5/adult

Small fee keeps things manageable: fewer crowds, better upkeep, respectful vibe. 

No cost, no accountability
