This is Axiom’s X mission: think Uber, but for countries without space programs (yet). The ride was captained by retired NASA icon Peggy Whitson, now Axiom’s space boss. India’s astronaut, Air Force pilot Shubhanshu Shukla, isn’t just space sightseeing - he’s gathering experience for Gaganyaan, India’s upcoming homegrown crewed mission. If successful, India will become the 4th nation ever to launch humans into space on its own. Alongside him? A CERN physicist from Poland and a Hungarian engineer - proof that you don’t need NASA on your passport, just a willing government and a serious science résumé.
