Let's say for instance you want to post about something that would only be topical for a day or two, for example a UFC fight, people in the future wouldn't care about your random "NO WAY!" you posted, relevant to only that moment. If you could set a disappearing time, so that the tweet auto-deletes after a certain period of time, just like you have with XChat, in this example a day long deletion, it wouldn't clog up your timeline for future people who don't have the context, and it could reduce bloat on the site.
