I was asked to go into a little more depth on my $IVN tweets in the link below 👇 I might have underplayed the seriousness of this thing given the % contribution of Kakula to the current mill feed (around 70%):
The more I think about it, the more I feel there would have been warning signs before the pillars started bursting. Flaking of pillars in the corners, noises etc. Also, the use of the word seismicity is a little misleading as they were/are simply pillars bursting as a result of overloading stress rather than suggesting some uncontrollable external factor. While bursts are indeed "seismic", it's a symptom not a cause at these depths. This could have been as controlled if caught in time, but wasn't. 🤔
Looking through the MD&A's its very clear there must be tremendous internal pressure to push production hard to meet the very aggressive new expansion targets set by seemingly always increasing processing capacity.
Fine, but mines do have operating limits, and Kakula was supposed to be doing 8Mt/yr (~22.5ktpd) in 2025, but record tonnes of 51ktpd have already been reported.... So they have to be pushing too hard = robbing pillars & v. likely cutting corners to please the bosses running the spreadsheets. @moneyofminepod
