More than most, I haven’t liked how Augusta National/@TheMasters have handled the current division in pro golf. They always should have been leading on this, but they haven’t and that’s disappointing. My biggest gripe is their words and their actions just don’t match.
Examples:
(1) Why are they’re still using OWGR to determine most of their field, when it’s objectively not identifying the top XX golfers in the world? Jon Rahm is 80th, Brooks Koepka is 249th. Cam Smith is 127th. Joaquin Niemann is 89th. Patrick Reed is 116th. I can go on and on. All are obviously Top XX players, so that’s X extra players getting into the Masters via Top XX that effectively shouldn’t be there. That lessens the event.
(2) They say they can invite extra players to mitigate, but they wouldn’t have to if they fixed the rankings that THEY help manage!
(3) They talk about how important International players are to the tournament, BUT they are actively keeping out some of the best players from some key/emerging golf markets because they don’t have effective methods of getting in. The best players from Mexico, South Africa, Poland, Colombia, X top Australians & a top X player from Spain are all out.
(4) There’s no way on God’s green Earth that Rafa Campos (456 in DG) or Patton Kizzire (259 in DG) should be in ahead of Carlos Ortiz (45), David Puig (47), or Abe Ancer (82). There’s NO WAY Christiaan Bezuidenhout is a better player than Dean Burmester. X% chance. Yet they just use CWGR because it’s the easy way out. Lazy. That’s what corrupt bureaucrats would do. ANGC could determine/use an accurate ranking tomorrow if they wanted. But they don’t want to. 🤷🏽‍♂️
(5) Chairman Ridley claims they want a resolution to the division like they’re powerless to fix it. They have ALL the power to fix it and pretending they don’t is disingenuous.
(6) But maybe worst of all, they have yet to recognize ANY of the things @livgolf_league is doing around the 🌎 to stimulate interest. That’s the thing that REALLY bothers me. Contracting top talent and bringing them around the 🌎 when they normally wouldn’t play in most of these markets. That inspires new golfers and literally grows the game. This is obvious. I’ve been banging this drum for years. You cannot ignore this any longer because it continually damages your reputation.

They could be the leader in pulling things together and being inclusive but they are ACTIVELY choosing not to. Mind boggling. They’re playing this waiting game when they need to be *proactive* and out front on all of this.
Most people will give them a pass this Masters week, but I won’t. You’re not doing enough. YOU need to do more. You should be holding yourself to the highest possible standard, not me or any other fan of the game.
I simply want to enjoy the best Masters Tournament possible as a passionate fan of global golf - regardless of the circumstances in pro golf. It’s YOUR job to adjust and evolve like you always have. Yes, I’ll still watch this year ofc, but my interest is eroding, and it has nothing to do with Tiger not playing. Pls fix.
