Ive heard at least two Americans being similarly impressed if not blown away after visiting China for the first time (in many years). "Interesting write-up of experience in China. Ive heard at least two Americans being similarly impressed if not blown away after visiting China for the first time (in many years). I think the way they were impressed comes down to two dimensions: social decorum and infrastructure. Neither of these is unique to China and much more common across advanced East Asian countries such as Japan Korea Singapore and even Taiwan. It was due to the reasons you laid out that the Fed (and the rest of us) got fooled by a growth scare as evidenced by the plunging 10y. "Really interesting long blog from ex-OpenAI engineer recounting the experience of working there. Eye-opening. Heres a few snippets that caught my particular attention. "@briangobosox And thats why theres a lot of uncertainty over tariffs and the case for wait and see. I was on team cutting. Now Im not so sure given the way the admin is behaving. "unpopular technology that is struggling to find a use case Havent seen a post from Doctor Giggleballs in a long time since we dont follow each other. Hes still doing this nonsense Ofc AI investments are expensive and risky. We dont know what the future payoff is going to be or whether AGI will ever happen or if its even a good thing. But to call AI unpopular or useless is another level of Luddite self-delusion. When I walk around the office these days every single monitor has a couple tabs of ChatGPT open. I think theres a use case alright. Also corporate leaders expect cloud computing" @stevehou0 on X 2025-07-24 09:24:04 UTC 30.7K followers, 2514 engagements

"Wall Street does not blindly defend the Fed as a knee-jerk reaction though. Wall Street criticize the Fed all the time every day. Even I as a supporter of the Fed have often criticized the Fed. I think they reacted late to inflation in 2021 and the QE programs were excessive and allowed to continue for too long. I thought the wholesale bailout of the depositors of the SVB was unjustified and unnecessary. Those are my personal views and some broadly shared incl by the Fed leadership itself. The Fed has plenty accountability through Congressional oversight and public scrutiny. They received a" @stevehou0 on X 2025-07-25 12:56:54 UTC 30.7K followers, XXX engagements
"@rabois Thats a different prediction. You are basically saying if the Fed cuts the entire rate complex will go lower. "The Fed is a national treasure and the envy of the world. Apart from making monetary policy decisions and financial regulations its a world premier economic and financial research institution. The Fed employs over XXX economists incl XXX at the Fed Board in DC and XXX at the regional Feds. Its first in class not just among world central banks and other research institutions but its researchers count among the worlds top scholars like a top research university economics and finance depts. Exhibit A: (Theres nothing wrong with being an amateur shooting ones mouth. We all do it as sports fans all the time. "The US dollar is a powerful financial technology one might say the worlds most powerful. The token itself is supposed to gradually go down in purchasing value over time. Its a feature not a bug of the modern fiat monetary system which has been wildly successful imo. Also think about all the things you could buy today with dollars that you couldnt in the 1930s when it was supposed to be worth so much more. The dollar depreciates thats why you own assets. I thought thats in the instruction manual for citizens born in capitalist countries" @stevehou0 on X 2025-07-25 11:53:45 UTC 30.7K followers, 13.8K engagements
