"I went into open source as a: "I just want things to be free for the public good" And now I am way in the opposite direction. What changed me was: 1) Distaste with OS politics that pervades many projects. Particularly when people fantasize about killing their political enemies. 2) Paying customers were really nice to me. 3) About 1/4 of "public" people such as some professors in EU/US were unpleasant to deal with. Talked to me like they owned my time while offering the possibility of my name on their paper. Note: I found this mildly amusing as my academic background usually far outstrips"
