What you might not know is that I worked on the first version of Windows Product Activation and this was our first major "hack". And yet it wasn't a 'hack' at all - it was a disastrous leak. The FCKGW key was a valid volume licensing key so all you needed was special volume media to go with it. Eventually they were bundled and put online by pirates. Open source can give you a million eyeballs but what matters most are (a) the diligence with which the code is originally written and (b) the expertise of those who later review it. "No because I learned two important things in college that I would not have known otherwise: 1) SQL Joins and Triggers 2) How to actually finish something hard that sucks and takes X years to do. I only used the second one at Microsoft. But at least they knew I'd done it once before. If you're old and proven great. If you're young and ambitious get a degree"

"I'll never forget the last time I was in Portland. I saw a mother and her child watching TV in a dimly lit room but then as I came around I could see they were actually using the TV's shell as a small fireplace with a small fire flickering inside. There had been no electricity for decades. Oh wait that was a cool scene from the Terminator"

"I'm so old I wrote that That's assuming it's the Windows version which is the one I worked on. The Win9x game art and original code were done by Maxis/Cinematronics. I ported it to Windows NT converted the x86 asm to C made it work on RISC and so on. Success has many fathers and all credit should really go to the original designers. I'm just the fun uncle that brought it to the masses"

"I don't know who needs to hear this but you don't need a Microsoft account to run Windows. You do need a Microsoft burner account to set up the FIRST account during setup same as MacOS. After that set up all the local accounts you like. It's what I do. Total time delta: X minutes"

"The story of FCKGW-RHQQ2-YXRKT-8TG6W-2B7Q8. If you're not the type to pay for your software you probably know this key. WPA worked by generating a hardware ID from your CPU RAM and other components then sending it to Microsoft alongside your"

"Hot take: open source is not more secure. Open source can give you a million eyeballs but what matters most are (a) the diligence with which the code is originally written and (b) the expertise of those who later review it. Having 50000 people fork the kernel doesn't mean they're all able to scrutinize the code for obscure exploits. I'd rather have one code review from @marklucovsky than XXX comp sci students looking at it"

"Cool demo check it out 100Base-TX (the standard XXX Mb/s Fast Ethernet) only ever used X of the X conductors but older or cheaper NICs and cables were wired for X simply because the RJ-45 jack has X pins and the earlier 100Base-T4 variant did use all 8"

"When I worked at Microsoft in the mid-to-late-90s it seemed like about half a dozen people I knew left right after reading this book. And they didn't leave to start virtual worlds. "60W for XXX passengers would be 11kW. I asked an Alaska XXX pilot and there is circuit breaker protection on the Bus (Ground Service Bus through the IFE BUS). There is also switched-on/off protection as well as load-shedding protection in the case of single-generator operation (one engine or APU only). Each engine-driven IDG is XX KVA and APU is a PMG at XX KVA. Some are rated at 40KVA but even that is plenty - it's the bus that's the limit. Or perhaps 12V conversion"
