"Around the Desert Storm timeframe the Saudis were building infrastructure like crazy. The roads were all new contruction and were generally in great shape. Large intersections were often used as gathering points in the evenings when the sun went down. You'd see hundreds of people pulled over on the side of the road hanging out. Entire families kids and everything. Sometimes the dunes would get blown onto the highway and they'd have to plow them off. kind of like snow"

"Ready set. Go While I spend a month at Cairo West one afternoon my pilot (Aircraft Commander) had to do SOF Duty also known as Foxtrot or Supervisor of Flying and I asked him if I could come along to take some photos. There guys were on the runway just about to push up the power for takeoff. It's one of the better photos I managed to take. I'm pretty sure the tail number was 62-3537 taken around mid 1991"

"A KC-135R can offload 100000 pounds of fuel to a B-52 in around XX minutes. For a B-52H that equates to another five and half hours of flying at cruise. Combat range for an unrefueled flight is around XX hours of flight so air refueling is a substantial extension. This is why the Flying Boom was created by Boeing and the USAF"

"DVIDS Caption for the photo: A B-52 Stratofortress from Minot Air Force Base N.D. moves into a pre-contact position to receive fuel from a KC-135 Stratotanker over the Pacific Ocean during an exercise on Jan. X 2009. The B-52 is deployed to Andersen Air Force Base Guam and the 23rd Expeditionary Bomb Squadron. The bomber rotation to Andersen provides the U.S. Pacific commander a continuous presence to deter and dissuade any potential aggressor in the region. The rotation to Andersen is aimed at enhancing regional security and demonstrating U.S. commitment to the Pacific region. The KC-135 is"

"@Adm_Hindsight The testing part makes sense if you don't have a full sized tanker hanging around. Still. it does look odd"

"I remember you posting about ATTF guys at Edwards but I don't recall seeing the tag. While I did get to do some great flights at Eielson one thing we didn't get to do was go anywhere else. We were at a slight disadvantage because while our base was upgrading to R models we took an A model to the ATTF (it was converted right after we returned home.) Farthest I got out of Alaska was Shemya. and technically that's still part of Alaska 🤣 So. wasn't me. But you're right it would be cool"

"So building on my previous post about the B-52 lets take a look at the C-17. While the C-17 can hold a maximum fuel load of 181000 pounds if its fully loaded with cargo (at 170900 pounds) that is reduced to only about 131000 lbs. Range is around 2400 nautical miles or XXX hours when heavyweight considerably less than the B-52s 8800-mile combat loaded range. Lets use an example. A C-17 out of Travis fully loaded with cargo could make it to Hawaii. Give it 100000 pounds of fuel when its burned enough off though and it could make it to Midway Atoll. Launch a second tanker with another 100000"

"@obxpilot23 I know it was from my point of view (looking down at the receiver.) I did get to try it in the pilot's seat in the KC-10 sim and I did ok but the pilots told me it wasn't the best representation of the real thing at the time. I'm sure the sims has gotten better by now"

"@TheJason1983 I have heard that. But I also heard the aircraft was a bit over-built. Perfect for engine upgrades and added fuel tanks"

"I don't want to make light of Tori's issues with her jeep (it's terrible) but I'm hoping the explaination for this is that a bunch of software engineers got fired from Boeing's KC-46 boom program last year and they all landed jobs at Jeep. BTW. Jeep isn't the only car company that has this issue. My uncles got a Lincoln and he got in his car one day and it no longer worked due to an OTA update. Sorry Tori I couldn't resist I hope they get it all fixed up for you"

"Those developers who released teh software should be fired. Then the developers who created the failure mode should be fired. Brakes locking up That's so dangerous. I'm sure once the lawyers get involved Jeeps gonna pay through the nose. Like I said I hope it all works out for you"
