"If you have access to http cookies (same origin) you dont need to use JWT. Just use the good old session and store nothing on the client. What youre doing here is stateful auth. JWT shines in stateless auth. Like between services. Stateful auth can be expensive at scale because the session data needs to be stored somewhere but it is the best way to authenticate web applications. JWT for client and server auth is a tough sell. Even for mobile applications Oauth is the best way. Get token (Can be JWT but why) then Use the token to get necessary user information then Save both in the OS keyring"

If youre sending emails youre using something like AWS SES or something built on your of it. Not even Google is completely safe from a region going down.
